Pradosh Vrat February 2015 date – Monthly Shiva Pradosh Fasting in February 2015

Pradosh is a fasting dedicated to Hindu God Shiva and it is observed on the 13th day of the fortnight in a traditional Hindu Lunar Calendar. Pradosh February 2015 dates are February 1 and February 16.

Note - The Pradosh on February 16, 2015 is highly meritorious as the Pradosh falls on Monday or Somvar. Monday is considered highly auspicious for propitiating Shiva.

The Pradosh period is in the evening from 1.5 hours before sunset and 1 hour after sunset. The fast which began at sunrise is broken during the period.

Most devotees make it a point to be present at a Shiva temple or offer prayers at home.

Pradosh Vrat is observed on the 13th day of a fortnight and there are two Pradosham in a Hindu month. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are worshipped in the evening during twilight on this day. In some regions, the day is dedicated to Nataraja form of Shiva. The fasting on this day is observed for success, peace and fulfillment of desires. It is said that mere darshan of any of the one form of Shiva removes ignorance.

Pradosham is observed when the Trayodashi Tithi is there during the twilight period. This is important.

The importance of Pradosha Vrata and how to observe it is narrated in the Skanda Purana.

There are two methods of fasting on the day. Some people observe a 24-hour fast which includes not sleeping during night. Another method is fasting from sunrise till sunset and after Shiva puja in the evening the fast is broken.

Pradosham is the twilight period just before sunset and after sunset. Pujas and prayers are performed during this period. Many people during this period spend the time in a Shiva temple or listening to the glory of Shiva.

In the evening, an hour before sunset the devotee takes bath and prayers are offered to Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvathi, Ganesha, Kartik and Nandi. After the initial prayers, Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of a Kalasha (sacred pot). The Kalasha filled with water is covered with darbha grass and a lotus is drawn on the pot.

Another form of worship is the puja of Shivling. The shivling is bathed with water and Bilva leaves are offered. Some people use a painting or picture of Shiva for worship. It is said that offering Bilva leaves on Pradosham is highly auspicious.

After this people listen to the Pradosha Vrata Katha or story or read chapters from Shiva Purana. Then the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is recited 108 times.

After this the water used in the puja ceremony is given as ‘Prasad’ along with sacred ash. The ash is applied on the forehead.

It is said that just lighting a single lamp during Pradosham period is enough to please Lord Shiva and the act is highly rewarding. Majority of Shiva devotees have a darshan of Shiva during Pradosham in a nearby temple.

Pradosh Vrat, also known as Pradosham, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The Pradosha fasting and rituals are observed on the 13th day of lunar fortnight. There is an interesting story mentioned in the Puranas which narrate the origin of the Pradosh Fasting. The Pradosh vrat katha is associated with Samudurmanthana or Churning of ocean and Lord Shiva drinking the poison Halahala.

To get Amrita or the elixir of life, Devas and Asuras started the Samudra Manthan or churning of ocean on the advice from Lord Vishnu. The churning of the ocean produced the terrible poison Halahala which had the capacity to devour the universe.

Lord Shiva came to the rescue of the Devas and Demons and he drank the poison Halahala. The demons and gods continued the churning of the ocean and finally they got the Amrut or elixir on the twelfth day of lunar fortnight.

The Devas and Asuras thanked Lord Shiva on the thirteenth day. Pleased with the devotion, Lord Shiva is believed to have danced between the horns of Nandi – the bull. The time when Shiva was extremely happy was the Pradosham period or the twilight time.

It is believed that Lord Shiva is extremely happy during this period and blesses all this devotees and fulfills their wishes during the Pradosh period on Trayodashi day.

Shiva devotees perform Pradosh for attaining moksha and fulfilling their dreams.

||वारी||

      वारी शब्दाचा अर्थ म्हणजे येरझार. पंढरपूराची वारी करावयाची म्हणजे आपल्या घरुन पायी चालत पांडूरंगाच्या भेटीला पंढरपुराला जायचे आणि भगवंताला भेटून परत घरी यावयाचे. वारकरी वर्षातून अनेकदा वारीला जातात. अनंत भगवान ठेवील त्याप्रमाणे राहायचे; त्याने दिलेला उदरनिर्वाहाचा मार्ग स्वीकारून निर्वाहापुरते अन्न, आच्छादनाची व्यवस्था करावयाची. तहानलेल्याची तहान जाणायची, भुकेलेल्या जीवाला अन्न द्यायचे, परस्त्रीला मातेसमान मानायचे, कोणत्याही जीवाचा मत्सर करावयाचा नाही, त्यांच्या कल्याणाची प्रार्थना करावयाची, संतावर प्रेम ठेवायचे, गीता भागवताचे वाचन करावयाचे, आपल्या सर्व कार्याच्या केन्द्रस्थानी भगवंताला ठेवायचे, धर्मपूर्वक गृहस्थ आश्रमाचे पालन करावयाचे,आणि भगवत धर्माचा मार्ग सुकर बनवायचा, असे वारक-यांचे भक्तिमय जीवन असते.

      अनेक भक्त एकत्र येऊन भजने गात, कथा करीत पंढरपूरला पायी जातात तेव्हा त्यांच्या समूहाला ‘दिंडी’ असे म्हणतात. 

      वर्षातील आषाढ शुक्ल एकादशीच्या पर्वावर संपूर्ण महाराष्ट्रातून गावोगावच्या, देवस्थानच्या दिंडया पंधरा ते वीस दिवसांचा पायी प्रवास करुन पंढरपूरात भगवान श्रीविठ्ठ्लाच्या दर्शनास येतात.

      वारीची ही प्रथा फार जुनी आहे. संत ज्ञानेश्वर महाराजांचे वडील दिंड्यातील वारीला जात होते. असे सांगीतले जाते. पूर्वी प्रवासाची साधने फारशी नव्हती. त्यामुळे लहान लहान समूहाने लोक पंढरपूरला जात असत. त्यामुळे ही प्रथा किती जुनी आहे याचा अंदाज करता येणार नाही. परंतु ग्वाल्हेरच्या शिंदे सरकारच्या पदरी सेनाधिकारी असलेल्या हैबतराव बाबा आरफळकर यांनी या दिंड्यामध्ये सूसुत्रता आणली. ते ज्ञानेश्वराच्या पादुका पंढरपूरला घेऊन जात असत. तुकाराम महाराजही पंढरपूरची वारी करत असत. त्यांच्या चिरंजीवांनी नारायण महाराजांनी सन १६८५ साली श्रीतुकाराम महाराज व ज्ञानेश्वर महाराज यांच्या पादुका पंढरपूराला घेऊन जाण्याची प्रथा सुरु केली. दिंडी सोहळ्याच्या या दोन परंपरा चालत आलेल्या आहेत.

मुख्य चार यात्रा(वार्‍या)
१) चैत्री यात्रा

      

चैत्र महिना हा नवीन वर्षातील पहिला महिना आहे. पंढरपुरात चैत्र शुद्ध एकादशीस म्हणजेच कामदा एकादशीस यात्रा भरते. सारे भाविक चंद्रभागा स्नान, विठ्ठल-रुक्मिणी दर्शन, पंढरी प्रदक्षिणा, भजन-कीर्तन करुन ही यात्रा साजरी करतात.

२) आषाढी यात्रा

आषाढी यात्रा ही पंढरीतील महायात्रा म्हणून ओळखली जाते. आषाढ महिन्यातील शुद्ध एकादशीस ही यात्रा भरते. या एकादशीस देवशयनी एकादशी म्हणतात. भगवंत या एकादशीपासुन शयन करतात. आषाढी एकादशीपासुन चातुर्मास चालु होतो. चातुर्मासात अधिकाधिक विठ्ठल गुणांचे रुपाचे श्रवण कीर्तन करुन भक्त विठ्ठल प्राप्तीसाठी प्रयत्न करतात. "आषाढी कार्तिकी विसरु नका मज । सांगतसे गुज पांडुरंग ॥ " आषाढी कार्तिकीला श्रीविठ्ठल-रुक्मिणीचे दर्शन २४ तास चालु असते. संत ज्ञानेश्वर महाराज आणि संत तुकाराम महाराज यांच्या दिंड्यांसह असंख्य दिंड्या महाराष्ट्रातील तसेच इतर राज्यातील कानाकोपर्‍यातुन पंढरीकडे श्रीविठ्ठल दर्शनासाठी येतात. वाखरी येथील संतनगर येथे सर्व संतांच्या पालख्या एकत्र होतात. आषाढ शुद्ध दशमीला सर्व पालख्या आणि दिंड्या एकमेकांना भेटतात. इथुन आषाढ शुद्ध दशमीला सकाळी सर्व पालख्या हळुहळु पंढरीकडे जायला निघतात. आषाढीला सारे वारकरी पवित्र चंद्रभागेत स्नान करुन संतांच्या पालख्यांसोबत पंढरी प्रदक्षिणा करतात.

"पुंडलिक वरदा हरी विठ्ठल" आणि "जय जय राम कृष्ण हरी" या नामघोषाने सारे वातावरण भारून जाते. एकादशीच्या दिवशी दुपारी एक वाजता सरदार खाजगीवाले यांच्या वाडयातील श्रीविठ्ठल-रुक्मिणी आणि श्रीमती राधाराणी यांची सजवलेल्या रथातुन प्रदक्षिणा मार्गाने मिरवणुक निघते. आषाढ शुद्ध पोर्णिमेला गोपालकाला होऊन यात्रेची सांगता होते. गोपाळपुर येथे सार्‍या दिंड्या आणि पालख्या एकत्र होतात. काल्याच्या कीर्तनानंतर सार्‍यांना गोपालकाला वाटला जातो.

३) कार्तिकी यात्रा

कार्तिकी यात्रा ही कार्तिक महिन्यातील शुद्ध एकादशीस पंढरपुरात साजरी केली जाते. शयनी एकादशीला झोपी गेलेले भगवंत या दिवशी उठतात. या उत्सवात चंद्रभागेच्या वाळवंटात ठिकठिकाणी कीर्तन प्रवचन चालू असते. संध्याकाळपासुन संपुर्ण वाळवंट भाविकांनी फुलुन जाते. एकादशीच्या दिवशी रात्रभर जागरही केला जातो. पोर्णिमेच्या दिवशी गोपाळपुरात गोपालकाला होतो भाविकांना प्रसाद वाटला जातो.

४) माघी यात्रा

      ;

माघी यात्रा माघ महिन्यातील शुद्ध एकादशीस भरते. या एकादशीस जया एकादशी म्हणतात. ठिकठिकाणी कीर्तन प्रवचन चालु असते. वारकरी विठ्ठल नाम गजरात तल्लीन होतात.
